Väruld is a living fantasy world built for stories.

It is a growing setting focused on exploration, human interaction, and long-form worldbuilding. Väruld can be used as a tabletop role-playing world, but it is equally suited for short stories and novels — a shared foundation for many kinds of storytelling.

The world is developed openly and continuously. What you see here is part of an ongoing creative process: what is currently being worked on, what is planned, and what has already taken shape.

The name Väruld comes from Old Swedish (Fornsvenska), meaning “world”. The setting encompasses an entire solar system with three habitable planets. The focus so far is Fyrst, explored through a growing series of books, one country at a time.

These books contain maps, geography, history, cultures, and detailed descriptions of cities, villages, and people. While conflict exists, the heart of Väruld lies in exploration, society, and the choices people make within a living world.

What is special about Väruld?

The sun in the solar system is much bigger than ours. This means it takes about three hundred Earth years for the planets to orbit the sun. A season lasts a lifetime.

These things are addressed in the book, what it means for age, language, measuring time, and more.

It is also a place where magic exists. Most magicians are just tricksters without any real skill. A skilled, trained wizard can do almost anything. It has a cost in stamina and a resulting imbalance that needs to be restored. Magic is not common. Not even wizards use it every day.

There are two portals on each planet. A portal leads to one of the other planets. They open when the planets align, which happens every 35 000 Earth years. It has only happened once, which mixed the three human races. After many generations, the portals passed into legend.
